Green Spark’s founder and Creative Director is Caroline Aistrop: “I was 13 when I decided to work in wildlife conservation and have been passionate about saving the natural world ever since. Nature fascinated me when I was child and it still does: there’s always something new to learn, to see and to share.
However, I’m also curious about people and their stories. Most of us think we’re not doing anything interesting (which is sooo English) but it’s absolutely the opposite - I find the ‘everyday’ stories are inspiring and anything but ordinary, and I love telling them to inspire others to believe they, too, can make a difference.
I've worked for a range of environmental organisations during my long career in this sector: RSPB, The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust, community charity Stroud Valleys Project, The Conservation Volunteers and have also been an environmental journalist with BBC's Natural History Unit and Radio Gloucestershire's award-winning countryside and rural affairs programme. I now run Green Spark so I can use this experience to help others who are caring for the planet to tell their stories and inspire others.
Society’s attitude towards the environment has changed beyond recognition during my time working in the sector. Back in the mid-1980s, I lied at parties when asked ‘and what do you do?’ This ‘environment thing’ was unknown so people assumed either I worked on a Greenpeace anti-whaling ship or that I was just plain weird and would quietly move away!
Because of this, I’m adamant that Green Spark takes the positive, 'can do' approach to telling our clients’ sustainability stories and to their communications. Research shows that if people feel helpless, they do nothing. We want these stories to help our clients succeed and to show that sustainability, business, and meeting society’s needs can all go hand-in-hand."
"I worked with Green Spark on a web design & development project for their client, and it was an enjoyable experience throughout. They offered fantastic copy writing skills, the approach was professional and thorough, and the quality of work was always excellent.
Everyone also benefited from Caroline’s project management skills in particular that really helped keep the project running smoothly throughout, and kept everyone on the project up-to-date and on the same page. Caroline really is one of the best individuals that I’ve worked with – not only is she highly experienced and knowledgeable in her field, she is also lovely to work with and I hope to do so again in the future." What can Green Spark offer you? Knowledge and experience gained from more than 30 years of developing and delivering environmental communications and campaigns plus time in environmental journalism. All of this has been at local, regional and national levels: from inspiring communities at the grass-roots to running UK-wide public awareness campaigns; and from reporting about rural affairs on a local radio Sony award-winning magazine programme to producing an environmental news programme for Radio Four. Scientific training is also mixed with our creative eye to ensure that your story is told with the authenticity that will build respect without the usual ‘marketing spin’. The demand for green also demands a new transparency and honesty, and there are plenty of passionate interest groups ready to take to task those green claims that are on dodgy ground.
