A one-stop shop website to provide inspiration

Festomane is an annual festival celebrating all things to do with manufacturing and engineering in the Stroud district of Gloucestershire. Despite employing 24% of the local workforce and leading the world with its innovations and technology, including in sustainable living, this sector is hidden from public view leading to a shortage of skilled workers and an out-of-date image. Festomane is a charity whose purpose is to reverse this situation: to engender public pride in what the sector achieves and in its history, inspire young people to benefit from the many career opportunities available, and help local M&E businesses to grow and flourish. Its website has to act as the central hub of its marketing and PR, not only promoting the festival but also providing information and guidance for those wanting to know more about, or work in, the sector.
The Context
Festomane’s previous website was difficult to navigate and was out-of-date, partly due to a complicated operating system, so adding new information was time-consuming. Plus no one person had particular responsibility for its maintenance, leading to a paucity of information and scant details about the festival's events. Attendance at the events was poor, partly due to this situation plus the website was not reflecting the professional nature of the sector. 
Green Spark...
took the bull by the horns and re-developed the website from scratch. A new, easy-to-use operating system was chosen and its content was developed to reflect the three main themes of the festival: promoting careers, supporting local businesses, and reversing the negative image of the sector. Green Spark continues to develop the site, providing the latest news regarding the local M&E scene, adding case studies of local businesses and their staff, expanding the section about apprenticeships and careers, recording the sector's fascinating history, enhancing the SEO, and providing fresh content that will attract new visitors and draw existing ones back in-between festivals. 
The Result
The eye-catching design and easy-to-read, interesting content was attracting over 1,000 new visitors a month only 9 months after it went live. This is an impressive result for a website with a focus that is both local and specialist. Our approach is to make it a one-stop-shop, establishing it as the first place local people will consult when they want to know anything about manufacturing and engineering. Having a professional-looking website that functions effectively has also assisted the co-ordination of the rest of the PR mechanisms. Like spokes of a wheel, they direct the public back to the website where they can find the latest information.
